25 unauthorised buildings razed by GHMC in two days

The GHMC after identifying 172 unauthorized constructions has bulldozed 25 illegal structures in the past two days.

19 buildings were demolished to the ground on Wednesday by the town planning wing in areas like AS Rao Nagar, Amberpet, Rajendranagar, Gudimalkapur, Saidabad, Lingampally, Nallagandla, Seethaphalmandi, Yellamma Banda, Lalapet and Makthamahboobpet areas.

Six buildings were razed on Tuesday. According to officials, buildings having ground plus five floors were taking to pieces as they were constructed without GHMC’s permission.

Denying allegations that only smaller buildings were being targeted Somesh Kumar, GHMC commissioner said some owners raised two to three additional floors unlawfully after obtaining permission for G+1 in as small as 200 sq yds plots. GHMC would identify all such buildings and razed them in a phased manner, he said.

Since July 15 more than 100 calls had been received by the GHMC call centre complaining about unauthorized constructions in various parts of the city.
The GHMC was considering those complaints and so that the demolitions could be taken up, Somesh Kumar said.

The commissioner appealed to the citizens to take advantage of GHMC call centre 040-21111111 to bring to their notice about illegal or dilapidated buildings along with details such as house number, area, landmark etc., so that the GHMC can initiate action without delay.

Employees’ grievances day would be conducted from 1pm to 1.30pm every Monday in all circle offices said Somesh Kumar. If the grievances were not levelled out in one week, the officers concerned would have to give reasons in writing for non-compliance, he said.
