Garhwal, July 16: 25 children of a government school in Uttarakhand’s Pauri district were taken ill after a fellow student sprayed insecticide on them thinking it to be deodorant.
The boy, a class VI student of Junior High School at Badiyargarh village, found a can of insecticide on his way to the institution two days ago. Thinking it to be a deodorant bottle, he sprayed it on his friends during the break time.
Soon after the incident, the students complained of nausea and severe headache. Eight of them fell unconscious, while 17 started vomiting and were rushed to hospital, said a doctor at Srinagar Base hospital, where the students were admitted.
The boy who had unknowingly sprayed the insecticide was also hospitalised, the doctor said.
According to hospital sources, all 25 students were out of danger and 20 were discharged from the hospital.
