Mumbai, December 18: A 22-year-old woman, sentenced to life-imprisonment by a sessions court last month, failed to secure bail from the Bombay high court on Thursday.
Jyoti Malusare was found guilty of killing her husband Vijay, 26, by giving him an overdose of sleeping pills. She was convicted by a sessions court.
Jyoti and Vijay, a worker with a shipping container, got married on May 9, 2007, and lived together with his parents and brother in their Ghatkopar home.
On June 14, 2007, Jyoti gave Vijay a glass of milk before going to sleep at night. The next morning, Jyoti called Abhay, her bother-in-law, saying that Vijay was not waking up.
Vijay was declared dead prior to admission in the hospital and the doctors asked Abhay to lodge a police complaint suspecting a case of murder.
Jyoti confessed to have given Vijay sleeping pills and strangle him with a towel when Abhay told Jyoti that a police complaint had been filed.
Her advocate Rajendra Shirodkar told the court to consider her case for bail as she was of “tender age” but when justice JN Patel and justice Amjad Sayed indicated that they were not inclined to grant her bail, Shirodkar withdrew the plea.
