2018 Wrap-Up: TS Assembly Poll campaign, controversial speeches, analysis of result

Hyderabad: Telangana State had gone to Assembly polls on 7th December, months before the expiry of the term of office.

Soon after the dissolution of Assembly, parties had started campaigning for the election. Many leaders had resorted to controversial speeches.

The surprising fact is that this time, BJP had put all its effort to win maximum seats in TS Assembly but failed to even retain the seat of its State President.

It may be recalled that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said that if the BJP comes to power in Telangana, MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi and his younger brother Akbaruddin will have to flee Hyderabad the way Nizam did.

On the other hand, Mr. Akbaruddin Owaisi had criticized PM Modi and said “chai wala” frequently in his election speeches.

War of words between TRS and BJP was also seen during the campaign. BJP had asked its star campaigners to put all their efforts to win maximum seats of TS Assembly. During the campaign, Amit Shah, Yogi Adiyanath and others were seen campaigning for BJP and criticizing other parties.

On the other hand, TRS had slammed BJP on many occasions. TRS was supported by MIM.

MIM versus MBT:

Prajakutami

A pre-poll alliance was made to defeat TRS-MIM and BJP. This alliance was known by name Prajakutami. It comprises Congress, TDP, CPI-M, Telangana Jana Samithi. However, it failed to defeat TRS.

Poll result:

Poll results were little surprising as no exit polls had predicted such a landslide victory for TRS. TRS had won 88 seats whereas Congress, BJP, MIM, TDP, AIFB, Independent had managed to win 19, 1, 7, 2, 1, 1 seats respectively.
