The State Government “is waiting to add new (power) capacity of 3910 MW’ during 2014, sid the Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayan Reddy, in his Vote on account Budget speech in the State Assembly today.
‘The calendar year 2014 may be the very best year for new capacity addition in the power sector of the State, starting with the commissioning of the Krishnapatnam first unit of 800 MW followed by second unit of 800 MW, and then commissioning of Hinduja National Power Corporation’s two units of 520 MW each at Visakhapatnam, 600 MW of APGENCO at Bhupalapally, 120 MW of Lower Jurala hydro capacity and 50 MW of Nagarjunasagar Tailpond. In addition, it is expected that 500 MW of long-tern contracted power from the private sector is likely to materialize before the contract date in the current year itself”, he said.
The Minister further said that in the current year, a record number of 1.75 lakh agricultural connections have been ordered to be relesed to the distribution companies so as to clear all the back-log applications pending for agricultural connections.
He made it clear that the Government’s commitment to supply free power to agriculture in spite of enormous financial burden on the budget is continuing. (NSS)
