Vijayawada, August 29: The APSRTC is all set to launch 200 more compressed natural gas (CNG) buses in the city soon. The Vijayawada region of the state-owned public transport corporaotion, which launched the eco-friendly buses in the city a couple of years ago, currently has a fleet of 100 CNG buses in addition to about 350 diesel ones and has been receiving a good response in terms of profits, maintenance and public appreciation.
Following the success of CNG buses in the city, the Corporation has decided to introduce 200 more buses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in the next couple of months and expand city services to a radius of 30 to 40 km as against the current 20 to 25 km.
Speaking to Express, Corporation regional manager A Koteswara Rao said that the new buses would be operated from Vidyadharapuram and Ibrahimpatnam depots by providing 100 buses to each of these depots.
The RM said that revenue collection and occupancy rate had come down in the last two months due to the lean season.
However, the region has earned profits in the last two years. He said the region had earned a profit of Rs 8.61 crore profit so far in the current financial year. The regional manager also said the Corporation would introduce 40 BRTS services soon.
