200 challaned for drunken driving on Christmas eve

New Delhi, December 26: Around 200 people were challaned for drunken driving on the eve of Christmas in the capital and they face cancellation of their driving licences and possible imprisonment.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg, 198 people were caught driving under the influence of alcohol on the Christmas eve.

“These cases will go to court tomorrow for fines, licence suspension and possible imprisonment,” Garg said.

A senior police official said they focussed near pubs, hotels, farmhouses and important intersections.

Police had earlier moved before court for allowing imprisonment in some cases of drunk driving. According to the official, the application was granted and 687 drivers have been imprisoned so far.

The official said the drive will continue on New Year eve also.
