Hyderabad: In order to keep an eye on the activities of the students, it has been decided to install 200 CCTC cameras in Osmania University from the current academic year. OU administration had proposed to install 600 CCTV cameras but the committee setup for its installation advised for getting up only 200 cameras in view of the financial constraints.
OU administration in consultation with police officials planned to install cameras at important places such as Principals, entrance of the hostels and other places on the main road.
The students of the university demanded to provide basic amenities first and cameras may be setup later. UGC issued instructions for the installation of cameras and also to institute police check post on the campus. A Ph.D. scholar opined that the university administration should first concentrate on issues like drinking water, sanitation and the entry of non- boarders in hostels and said that where is the hurry for investing on CCTV cameras.
With the implementation of biometric system, the attendance of the students could be checked and the entry of non-boarders could be avoided but this project was shelved due to paucity of funds.
