NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old car cleaner killed a pregnant woman and injured her relative after hitting them with his owner’s Honda city car in Ashok Vihar.
The deceased woman Pooja and her relative Kamlesh hailed from UP and were labourers at the construction site where the incident took place. They were staying at the construction site with their families. The duo after having lunch was washing utensils when Kishan rammed the car on them pushing the two women onto the newly constructed wall.
Kishan Kumar was hired as a cleaner by Manoj Jain, a resident of E-block, Ashok Vihar a few months back. Jain who runs a business in Rohini left his car keys with Kumar.
The impact of the collision was such that a part of the wall was completely damaged. Kishan suffered injuries in the accident, killing the Pooja and severely injuring Kamlesh. He tried fleeing the scene but the labourers on the spot caught him.
However locals allege that Jain’s daughter was also present in the car during the accident.
“Kumar got inside the vehicle and started driving it. He lost control and rammed the wall,” said Ram Prasad, Kamlesh’s husband.
Pooja who was four months pregnant was declared brought dead at a private hospital while Kamlesh was shifted to LNJP hospital.
The car owner Jain was questioned by the Police about the incident. Sources informed that Jain usually would hand over the car keys only if a family member accompanied Kumar.
On questioning, Kumar said after cleaning the car he loosened the hand break and started the car. The car started moving as it was in gear. Instead of applying brakes he pressed the accelerator which led to the accident.
Milind Dumbere, DCP of Northwest Zone said, “A case of causing death due to negligence and negligent driving has been registered against Kumar. The vehicle has been impounded and a challan will be issued to Jain for allowing an unauthorised person to drive his car. Kumar did not have a driving licence”, as reported in Times of India.
