Machilipatnam (AP): Around 20 tonnes of chicken waste manure, ferried illegally in three lorries, was today seized in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.
“Nearly 20 tonnes of chicken waste which was being transported illegally from Hyderabad to Undi in West Godavari district was seized,” Mandavalli Sub-Inspector A Manikumar said.
The drivers of three lorries did not have any required documents and hence were arrested, he said.
A case has been registered in Mandavalli Police station under relevant sections of IPC and a probe is on, Manikumar added.
The chicken manure along with some other meat is being transported for its use as food in fish ponds in West Godavari and Krishna districts, a top official of the AP fisheries department said.
The use of chicken waste for feeding fish is considered harmful for humans and is banned, he said, adding despite the ban, some farmers were using it for feeding the fish.
