New Delhi: The Indian Institutes of Technology Council(IIT), this Friday in a meeting at IIT Mumbai agreed to the proposal to create 20 percent of additional seats exclusively for women by the year 2020.
It was the Joint Admission Board, made up of the IIT directors, that suggested the supernumerary, girls-only seats.
The Union Human Resources Develpoment Minister, Pakash Javadekar said, “It has been decided to give admission to more girls”.
One of the IIT Directors said, “After the creation of the exclusive seats for them, girl students would have a better chance of securing admission to IITs nearer their homes, as reported in TOI.
