20 lakh students not enrolled in electoral list

Hyderabad, December 15: Election Commission of India has identified 20 lakh students studying in state colleges who have not been enrolled in the electoral list. Youth reaching the age of 18 years should be enrolled as voters at any cost. 6 crore people should be enrolled as voters in the state by the end of December.

A number of youth expressed indifference and have not enrolled their names despite the time stipulated for that.

An agreement was made with the various university vice chancellors last year that students who want to take degrees must produce voter identity cards in case they don’t have voter id they were required to fill the application form for the same then and there itself but it was not done accordingly.

In addition to this awareness camps were set up by a number of NGOs but were failed to produce any substantial results.

Right to vote provided by the Indian constitution is not being properly utilized by 30 to 35 percent of the country’s population.
