Dhanbad (Jharkhand), April 27: Nearly 20 people, including some policemen, were injured today in a clash during an anti-encroachment drive in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district, police said here.
The incident took place at Matkoria area when locals clashed with police during a demolition drive. Dhanbad SP R K Dhan and a constable were injured in the incident, police said.
Dhan was rushed to a hospital in serious condition, they said, adding that nearly 20 people were injured in the clash.
The residents, who had allegedly encroached upon the land of Bharat Coking Coal Limited, were served notice to vacate the area and today was the date for the demolition work, they said.
According to eyewitnesses, police resorted to lathicharge and used water cannons before firing warning shots in the air after stones and crude bombs were hurled at them allegedly by the protesters.
