2 water treatment plants to come up

Hyderabad, November 17: With the existing Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) at Asif Nagar and Miralam filter beds becoming outdated, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is planning to establish two new ones at the Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar soon.

The existing water treatments plants had been established more than five decades ago and have outlived their life span. Therefore, the Water Board has been forced to plan for new WTPs. HMWS&SB officials told Expresso that Expressions of Interest (EoI) have been invited from agencies and consultancy firms for conducting detailed study and preparing designs. Last date for submission of EoIs is November 20.

Though a 30 million gallons of water per day (MGD) capacity WTP is enough for treatment, it was decided to have 45 MGD plants keeping in view the future needs of Greater Hyderabad. There is also a proposal to divert water from the Pranahita-Chevella project to the city.

Officials said the selected consultant has to identify a suitable site for the proposed treatment plant. They also need to study raw water drawls and intake arrangements to the proposed site. They should design the WTP with suitable technology including Clear Water Reservoir (CWR), pump house and pumping equipments and sub-stations, according to officials.
