Midnapore (WB), November 14: Two suspected Maoists were killed in a clash with an armed group at Shirsi village in West Midnapore district this evening.
A police officer said two persons, suspected to be Maoists, were killed in the three-hour long armed clash at the forested village, under Kotwali police station area.
However, the identity of the slain duo or their rival armed group was still being ascertained, he said, adding, joint security forces left for the area.
District Magistrate Surendra Gupta said a report has been sought about the clash and nothing else could be confirmed at this stage apart from two deaths in a clash.
However, unconfirmed reports said the two dead were Maoist squad members Sushen Mahato and Nibaran Singh.
The reports suggested they were killed in a three-hour long gunbattle with armed CPI(M) cadre in the area.
