Two steel plant workers died in an accident at the blast furnace unit three of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant(VSP) here today.
According to official sources, due to accident the slag and hot metal fell on the recline, resulting in the death of two contract workers of a private company working for the steel plant.
A steel plant release said ‘normalisation of blast furnace -3 as per the technological sequence the liquid slag was being taken into slag pit. One Procline was kept in use to clear the slag in nearby pit. While clearing the debris the Procline came in front of the working pit about 10 feet away. Suddenly the liquid Slag breached out and engulfed the Procline and Procline caught fire’.
The Operator and the Supervisor working in the area were caught in the fire and succumbed to injuries.
Fire Tenders were pressed into action at the site and the fire was extinguished.
All efforts were made to restore the normalcy at blast furnace-3 operations, the release added.
