2 State excise officials amass assets in Haryana

Hyderabad, August 07: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths, for the first time, unearthed properties amassed by State government officials in other parts of the country. They found that two excise officials, from Guntur and Nellore districts, together had disproportionate assets worth Rs 2 crore, including agricultural land in Gurgaon and Fareedabad in Haryana.

The market value of the assets, however, could be more than Rs 10 crore.

The accused officials are the assistant excise superintendent of Tenali in Guntur district, G Janardhan Reddy and the excise inspector of Kovvur in Nellore district, Ch Srinivasa Murthy. “We had specific information that the two officials are in possession of immovable assets in Gurgaon, Haryana,” the ACB officials said in a release.

They conducted discreet inquiries and registered cases against the duo before conducting simultaneous searches on their offices and residences besides on the houses of their friends and relatives in Guntur and Hyderabad.

“Srinivasa Murthy has two acres in Gurgaon and three in Fareedabad. He also has two houses, six house sites in Guntur and six acre farm land at Pedda Shapoor in Ranga Reddy district, all worth Rs 91.54 lakh.” Besides, he has

Rs 74,000 cash, bank balance of Rs 10.18 lakh, investments in LIC of Rs 4 lakh, household articles worth Rs 3.5 lakh, promisory notes for Rs 4 lakh, gold ornaments of Rs 1.05 lakh, a twowheeler worth Rs 50,000 and other assets valued at Rs 23.97 lakh.

Janardhan Reddy owns one acre in Gurgaon apart from a twostoried house at Saidabad in the city and 1.20 acre at Pocharam in Ibrahimpatnam, all worth Rs 64 lakh. His other assets include include Rs 2 lakh cash, two motorcycles, a Ford Icon car worth Rs 6 lakh, investments in LIC to the tune of Rs 5 lakh, household articles of Rs 2 lakh, gold ornaments worth Rs 2.50 lakh and an investment of Rs 3 lakh in a stone quarry near Tandur of Ranga Reddy district.

The searches are still in progress. The two officials would be produced before a special court for ACB cases in Hyderabad, the release said.
