2 passengers die at Mumbai airport

Mumbai, June 03: Two passenger deaths were reported at the Mumbai airport on Wednesday. An ailing foreign national died before a flight could land in Mumbai, and a Dubai-bound passenger collapsed at the check-in counter of an overseas airline.

A Yemeni national died on board the Yemen Airways Sana-Mumbai flight IY 854.

Jameah Ahmed, 24, suffering from blood cancer, was travelling from Sana for treatment at the Tata Memorial Hospital.

The flight was to land at Mumbai at 5.15am on Wednesday, when a co-passenger found Ahmed breathless and informed the crew.

Another co-passenger, a doctor, attended to Ahmed but at 4.30am he declared her dead; the flight landed at 5.15am. “Her blood pressure was not recordable.

Her pupils were dilated and did not respond to light. There was no respiration and pulse. Doctors at the airport declared her dead at 6.30am,” a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) official said.

In the second case, Radheshyam Mukhi (67) and his wife went to the Sahar international terminal to catch the Emirates Mumbai-Dubai flight EK 507 that was to leave at 3.15pm. At 12.45pm, when they were at the airline counter, he suddenly collapsed.

Airline staff informed the airport doctor, who reached the spot in five minutes. “Artificial respiration and other necessary steps were taken. He was taken to an ambulance for further medication and treatment,” the official said.However, Mukhi was declared dead at 1.05pm.-With inputs from agencies
