As many as 2 lakh temporary white ration cards issued to BPL families during the Rachabanda programme this year will be cancelled as they are not in use.
During the Rachabanda programme conducted by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, 29 lakh temporary coupons were issued to the families living below poverty line. Of them, 1 lakh coupons were not distributed to families because of improper documents produced, while the rest were distributed but not used. Director of civil supplies department T Chiranjeevulu said “The 2 lakh white ration cards will be cancelled before October 15. The rest of the BPL families will be given permanent ration card within three months.”
The total number of families having ration card is 2 crore 29 lakh. The number of families having white ration card is 2 crore and those having pink ration card is 29 lakh. The total number of fair price shops is 42450. Of which 2190 have been shut down.
