Two persons were today killed as members of ruling TDP and opposition Congress clashed over an issue related to stealing of buffaloes in Munimadugu village here, police said.
Both the victims had a tiff over a previous case related to stealing of buffaloes, said Superintendent of Police, Kurnool A Ravi Krishna.
One of the deceased, Nasir Basha, belonged to the ruling TDP, while K Swamy, who was found dead nearby after the clash, is said to be a Congress worker, a senior official said.
Both the victims belong to two different communities.
“The incident has nothing to do with either politics or religion. Both the groups indulged in some altercation last night. This morning, there were incidents of stone pelting and beating with sticks in the village that led to the clash. Basha died after he was severely injured in the violent confrontation.”
“We found the body of Swamy later. There were no visible injuries on the body. We can ascertain the cause of death only after post mortem,” the police official told PTI.
The police, however, registered a case based on the complaint by the rival group, he said.
The situation has been brought under control and a police picket has been set up in the village, the SP added.
