Palghar: Two employees of a cash management company from Mumbai were arrested for allegedly stealing money from an ATM in Vasai in the district, police said.
The two accused- Abijit Bane, an executive and Srikant Gavas, an employee, were assigned to refill cash in various ATMs from Colaba (in Mumbai) to Dahanu in the district, an official attached to Manickpur police station said.
It was between March 28 and April 12 that Bane refilled cash in an ATM of a private bank at Vasai. However, during the same period he stole Rs 22.26 lakh from the same ATM, the officer said.
He later confessed the crime and refunded Rs 3.5 lakh but did not return the remaining amount.
Gavas, who accompanied Bane, did not inform the management about the same, police said.
Following a complaint, the duo was apprehended yesterday and a case under relevant sections of IPC was registered, the officer said.
