New Delhi: Two men have been arrested from south Delhi for allegedly duping customers of a popular e-commerce website by replacing expensive phones, laptops and tablets they had ordered with soap bars and biscuits, police said today.
A case was registered on the basis of a complaint from the company and three men were identified, they added. The accused used to scan the barcode of the product ordered, identify the contents and then, replace them with an identically shaped bar soap or packets of biscuits, police said.
Two of the accused, identified as Vikas Kumar Jha and Roshan Kumar, were arrested from a house in south Delhiās Fatehpur Beri, they added. A hunt is on for the third accused, Raj Kumar, stated to be the mastermind who was employed with the e-commerce company, police said.
During interrogation, Jha and Kumar told the police that Raj Kumar used to provide them with information on WhatsApp about customers who had placed orders for iphones and expensive tablets, said an officer. Jha and Kumar used to purchase boxes with the logo of the e-commerce company and packets bearing its stamp from scrap dealers.
They also used to prepare fake bills of products from a shop at Kirti Nagar, he added.
When the product arrived, Raj Kumar would collect it for delivery and mark it as delivered. Later, the trio would fill the fake boxes with the soaps or packets of biscuits and deliver them to the customers. Police have seized several boxes of the company from their possession.
