An environmentalist said, “What is the use of planting lakhs of saplings when forest fires are occurring so often.” The fire doesn’t harm to flora and fauna but also harms the wildlife and affects the biodiversity.

“Two months back we have started using fire lines to control forest fires. We thought there would be a decline in the number of fires but it has become difficult to control the outbreak of fires,” said Munindra, Additional principal chief conservator of forests.

Khammam had a most forest fires at 179, Adilabad (124), Warangal (89), Karimnagar (53), Ranga Reddy (36), Medak (18), Mahbubnagar (18), Nizamabad (17) and Nalgonda (8) according to the data.

Munindra, said, the forest caught fire due to the lightening. High atmospheric temperatures and dryness or low humidity are the causes for the fire to spread. Some caught fire through the irresponsibility of human that throws the cigarette or bidi butts or electric sparks from power lines.
