2 CRPF officers held for killing ex-MLA’s son

Korba: Two officers of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been arrested in connection with the murder of the son of a former MLA last year in Chhattisgarh’s Sarguja district, police said today.

Inspector Y A Soloman, 35, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajendra Singh, 45, were arrested yesterday from CRPF’s training camp on the outskirts of Ambikapur city, Sarguja Superintendent of Police R S Nayak said.

While Solomon is posted with 227th battalion and stationed at Bastar district headquarters Jagdalpur of CRPF, Singh is with 9th battalion, deployed at Gadchiroli in Maharashtra.

They were called up for interrogation and subsequently arrested, he said.

On August 2 last year, the two had an altercation with Sanjay Singh, 40, at Agrasen square of Ambikapur city after which they thrashed Sanjay, leading to his death during the treatment later.

Sanjay’s father Deveshwar Singh was a Jan Sangh MLA from Ambikapur when it was part of Madhya Pradesh.

A court in Ambikapur has sent the accused to judicial remand.
