2 crore Makkah Masjid project marred by substandard work

When various government departments and officials inspected Makkah Masjid ahead of Ramadan, they found that the developmental works worth 2 crore remain incomplete which included construction of sump, repair of ablution tank and Masjid roof and chemical wash of the walls. Officials of Municipal Corporation, water works, electricity, archaeology and Minority Welfare Department inspected the developmental works in view of upcoming Ramadan.

The 1.30 crore project of construction of underground sump with a capacity of 5 lakh litres for storing water to cater to the ablution needs of worshippers and for use of the mosque in the north-east corner of the Makkah Masjid premises has come to a standstill.

Leaking roof of the Masjid compounded the problem much to the chagrin of worshippers and tourists even though 8 lakh rupees were sanctioned for the repair work. 37 lakh were sanctioned for chemical wash but the walls seem to remain unattended.

Further, after much deliberation, repair work of the ablution tank in the central courtyard at an estimated cost of Rs 8.5 lakh was also entrusted to the HMWS&SB. The tank had developed cracks from which water was continuously escaping. The problem persists despite sanction of fund.
