Two chilren died and six fell ill after consuming preserved food at Maddur mandal in the district today. After celebrating house inauguration ceremony by one family at Nandipadu village on February 28, the family distributed the balanced food to their surrounding families next day after preserving it. The preserved food was consumed by the family members and also other families in the village yesterday. But they complained of stomach pain and vomiting since last night. Two children identified as Raju and Bhagyam died in the early of today while six others, who also fell ill of alleged food poisoning, were shifted to local government hospital. However, when contacted about incident, the Maddur police confirmed it but said no one had lodged any complaint in connection with the incident so far. Local revenue officials visited the function house and collected the preserved food samples for lab test, the police added.
