Abul kalam Azard Oriental Research Institute located inside the premises of Shahi Masjid, Public Garden, was established 58 years ago, its activities are at standstill for several years. The minority welfare department had given the two buildings on a monthly rent of 1 rupee. One building was given for library and lecture hall and the other one for research activities. But the research activities for the past several years are next to nothing.
The roof of the building is very precarious, water comes in during rainy season and there is danger of the books getting damaged. The building is in such a dilapidated condition that it can fall any time. All the windowpanes are broken. People visiting public garden throw garbage in front of the building. Some unauthorized people in drunken state enter mosque premises in the pretext of library.
‘Musallis’ of the mosque wish that the two building be handed over to the mosque so that they can be used as Quran and Hadeeth centre. Besides this it can be utilized on the occasion of Friday prayer.
Presently committee secretary, using his political influence, has taken the buildings under his possession although the assembly Waqf committee had also recommended handing over the buildings to the mosque.
