Silchar: Bodies of two women were found while as many members of the same family were still missing after being washed away in landslide and floods in Assam’s Cachar district, police said today.
Four members of the family of Dipesh Lemrong – his wife, a daughter and two sons – were last night washed away when their house was damaged in a landslide following heavy rains in Kashiyapunji area of Bhubanpahar, about 35 km from here, a police officer said.
The bodies of Lemrong’s wife and daughter were later found while those of his sons were still missing, the officer said adding seven houses were also washed away by heavy rains in nearby Bhubangram village.
The NDRF has launched a rescue operation for the affected people.
Police and civil officials were involved in rescue and relief operation at the spot, police added.
