Two Army men were killed in a major ceasefire violation by Pakistan on Monday on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
An army spokesman said in Srinagar that “The Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by opening firing in Gurez sector at 12.30 pm which lasted till 2.00pm.”
The two Army men were identified as Tariq Ahmad Lone and Waseem Ahmad Lone of 160 TA Battalion of Mantrigam Bandipora.
The officials said both sides exchanged heavy gunfire for about more than two hours.
“The troops effectively returned the fire and targeted positions of Pakistani troops,”they said.
The other side casulties are not yet confirmed. This is the first ceasefire violation on the LoC between the two countries.
The ceasefire violation from Pakistani side comes five days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir on November 7 to inaugurate 450 MWs Baglihar power project phase-II in Ramban district. The PM is also going to address a rally in Srinagar at SK Cricket
Stadium.
