1in 100 adults is a HIV patient in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh stood at No.1 among other states in India not for growth and development but in number of HIV cases. Out of total 24 lacs cases reported in India, AP contributed 5 lacs (20%). According to latest survey reports (2011-12) AP enjoying top position with around 5 lacs HIV cases. Followed by Maharashtra (4.19 lacs), Karnataka (2.45 lacs), West Bengal(1.67 lacs) and Tamil Nadu (1.54 lacs).

Earlier Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamilnadu were in the first three places but this year AP leapt to the top spot, officials said. While one in every 300 adluts is suffering from HIV elsewhere, in Andhra Pradesh one in every 100 adults is a HIV patient, that is almost one per cent.Hyderabad known for IT Hub it’s now also called for HIV hub. Followed by Guntur and East Godavari.

As per the report 1.07% HIV cases observed among men and .73% among women. Illiteracy, Unemployment, Migration for Employment from rural to urban are few reasons for spreading this decease among the people. AP Govt fails to give proper propaganda and publicity to control the cases.

New HIV cases among adults have declined by half in India since 2000, according to a new UN report which praised India’s contribution to AIDS response through manufacture of generic antiretroviral drugs.

Though rate of HIV transmission in Asia is slowing down, atleast 1,000 new infections among adults continue to be reported in the continent every day in 2011.
