Hyderabad, August 16: Independence Day festivities took a tragic turn on Sunday when an youngster was electrocuted while erecting the flag pole at the Kukatpally Housing Board Colony. Two others suffered burns in the incident.
The mishap took place when a group of youngsters were making arrangements for hoisting the national flag around 8.45 a.m. at the KPHB Colony phase-III bus stand. “A group of youngsters were hoisting the tri-colour on a flag pole when the iron pole came into contact with a high-tension wire passing over it,” KPHB police inspector N Narasimha Reddy said. 19-year Dilip, a second-year BCom student died instantly while two others, Rajesh Goud and T Ramesh, suffered burns.
The injured were shifted to a private hospital at Kukatpally. Dilip was a resident of Gokul Flats and his father, Dhanraj is a police constable at the Kandukur police station. One of the injured, Rajesh Goud is a local Youth Congress leader. Police have registered a case under Section 174 (accidental death) and are investigating.
