18 lakh voters enrolled: CEO

Hyderabad: As part of speeding up the process for conducting the elections for dissolved Assembly in Telangana, The Election Commission has expedited the arrangements. The EC has focused on the alleged removal of some names of the voters followed by the complaints from political parties. The EC also checking the veracity of the actual voters, duplicate, repeated names and those of death cases by serving the notices to the family members.

CEO Rajath Kumar today informed press persons that the process is on to set right the electoral list till Sept 25 to receive objections and claims and make necessary corrections in the list. However the enrolment drive will continue 10 days ahead of the closure of the nominations. He informed that 18 lakh new voters have been enrolled during its second drive and the number will further increase for another five days. Rajath Kumar said that as many as 4.92 lakh names in the voter list are found to be either wrong or false in terms of duplicate, repeat of names and photos, death cases or others which are set to be removed by using latest technologies online.

Te political parties have to depute their booth level agents to prepare the Electoral list and Sept 25 is the last date for objections and claims and the new enrolment of voters will continue till 10 days before the filing of nomination date he clarified.

The machinery has been involved in the poll arrangements and 21 districts received 44,000 VVPAT machines and the rest will reach other districts in a couple of days. Stating that 39,470 ballot boxes out of the 52,100 ballot boxes were received, Rajath Kumar said that they have sent a team of 120 master trainers to national capital, Delhi to receive training to use VVPAT machines and units during poll process. In turn they will provide training to the booth returning officers in all polling booths he said adding that mock polling will be conducted at all 19,044 polling stations in all districts.

The EC has pressed in 32,374 Booth Level Officers to enrol the new voters besides taking claims and objections and serving the notice to duplicate voters and to family members in the cases of deaths he said.
