At least 18 people were killed and several wounded in a stampede that broke out on Saturday near the residence of Dawoodi Bohra spiritual leader Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. According to T.V. reports, the stampede took place near the Malabar Hill residence of Dr. Burhanuddin, who died on Friday, as people had gathered to pay homage to the spiritual leader. The incident took place at around 1.30 a.m. and cause for the stampede is not yet ascertained. The bodies of those died in the stampede were taken to Saifee Hospital. Injured people have been taken for treatment. Dawoodi Bohra community head Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin had died on Friday of cardiac arrest. Imminent personalities, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had paid their condolences on his death. (ANI)
