18 FARC rebels killed in southern Colombia

Bogotá, July 26: At least 18 rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) have been killed in an aerial bombardment, says the Colombian military.

The bombing happened in the southern jungle province of Meta on Saturday, Defense Minister Gen. Freddy Padilla said.

The attack was part of Colombia’s hunt for No. 2 FARC commander Jorge Briceno, known as “Mono Jojoy.”

Government troops have been stepping up pressure on FARC camps where they believe the rebel boss has been hiding.

Padilla also said that soldiers seized camping equipment, munitions and other items following Friday and Saturday’s clashes.
