177 houses for poor families in RAK

Ras Al Khaimah, April 28: As many as 177 new houses will be built for poor Emirati families and youths in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) bringing the total number of UAE nationals who have received housing grants to 271 since February this year, Sultan bin Ali-Abu Lailah, Director of the Lands Department in RAK said.

Abu Lailah said the Lands Department in coordination with RAK Municipality have completed the necessary procedures for the grants including the allocation of plots and that construction would begin shortly.

Many Emirati youths and those families living in dilapidated houses in RAK have submitted their applications under the housing programmes in the emirate including the Zayed Housing Programme and the Saud Housing Programme but some said their applications have delayed so much yet they are in desperate need for new houses.

Mohammed Abdullah, an aged Emirati living in Al Ma’aridh area, said he applied for a new house four years ago but his application has not been processed.

“My house is very old and need to be replaced with a new one. I am afraid the old ceilings of this house may one day collapse on us. I have spent a lot of money on the renovation and maintenance of the house but there is no change since the house was built many years ago,” said Abdullah.
