Mohali, August 02: Accused extorted money from the victim, threatening to circulate the video they made while raping her on July 8
A 17-year-girl was allegedly raped by two men, who abducted her from Mohali on July 8. The accused reportedly filmed the girl in an objectionable position and later extorted money and jewellery from her, the police said.
After keeping silent about the incident for over three weeks, the girl on Friday told her mother about it.
The accused were reportedly demanding Rs 2 lakh from her, threatening to upload her pictures and videos on Internet.
The victim, who lives in Sohana, passed Class XII recently.
“The victim broke down in front of her mother on getting another extortion call of Rs 2 lakh from the alleged rapists from Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib,” investigation officer Assistant Sub-Inspector Harmesh Kumar told.
In her complaint, the girl said around 2.30 pm on July 8, one Harman forcibly took her away from Sohana on a motorcycle to a flat in Jal Vaayu Vihar in Sector 68, Mohali. In the flat, the other accused Raghav was already present.
“Both raped me repeatedly,” the victim said in her complaint. Later, she reportedly walked all the way from Sector 68 to her home in Sohana.
Since the victim was threatened with “dire consequences” by the accused, she stayed quiet. The next day she got a call from one of them, who demanded Rs 2 lakh from her, threatening to upload her video they had filmed while allegedly raping her.
Fearing the consequences, the victim reportedly gave them her mother’s two pairs of gold earrings and Rs 15,000, which she stole from her mother’s safe, she said in her complaint.
Then on July 24, the accused again demanded Rs 2 lakh. However, by now the mother had got suspicious after finding her jewellery and cash missing. Meanwhile, the accused continued to exert pressure on the girl to fulfill their demand.
On Friday, when the accused again called the girl, saying it was the “last call”, she informed her mother, who took her to the police station.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the police have booked cloth merchant Parminder Singh alias Harman and Sunny alias Raghav, both from Sirhind, under Sections 363 (abduction), 366-A (procuration of minor girl), 376 (rape), 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.
The accused are absconding.
“We have lodged an FIR and got the victim medically examined at the Mohali Civil Hospital. The report is awaited to establish rape,” ASI Harmesh Kumar said, adding that raids were being conducted at various places to arrest the accused.
