Gurgaon: A 17-year-old Haryana girl committed suicide after she was allegedly gang-raped by eight men near Gurgaon. According to victim’s family, she was alone at home when the accused abducted her and took her to an isolated place.
Victim’s father told ANI that the family was away to offer their condolence to one of their relative’s death. Around 2:30 am, the family returned and could not find the teenager at home. After searching in the neighbourhood, she was found unconscious on a roadside, the family said. On Wednesday, she informed her parents that she was forcefully taken to a location and raped by eight men.
Her parents said that she also named four of the eight accused. She later went to the toilet in the afternoon on the same day and killed herself. She was also reportedly threatened with dire consequences for naming the accused, who are said to belong to ‘influential families’.
DSP Virendra Singh told ANI: “An FIR was lodged after we received a complaint on Tuesday night that a girl was kidnapped from her home and taken to a secluded place and gang-raped. Later they left her in an unconscious state on the roadside.”
Four of the accused have been charged under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. No arrests have been yet made despite mentioning accused in the FIR.
