Adilabad, January 05: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Nitin Gadkari today reiterated that 165 NDA MPs would support the T Bill if the UPA introduced it in Parliament.
Speaking at ‘Telangana Poru’, the public meeting organised by the state BJP here, Gadkari said if the Union government tried to suppress the Telangana agitation, the NDA would stall the Parliament.
“The government which had no additional forces to deploy when antinational elements were creating havoc in the country, has no dearth of them for deployment in Telangana despite the fact there is a peaceful agitation going on here,” Gadkari said.
“If the UPA government doesn’t create a separate Telangana state, the NDA, which would come to power in 2014, would do that,” he added. Referring to lack of irrigation facilities in Adilabad despite the Godavari flowing there, Gadkari said the NDA, if voted to power, would include irrigation in the Concurent list and release 50 percent of funds for projects. Within five years, nine dams would be built on the Godavari in Adilabad making the entire region fertile, he said.
Telangana political JAC convener M Kodandaram said all sections of people fighting for Telangana would put a united fight and intensify the stir. It was not proper to try to suppress the people’s movement with police force, he said. State BJP president G Kishan Reddy alleged that the Congress and the TDP were creating obstacles in the formation of a T state. If the two parties were sincere, their presidents should make clear their stand on Telangana, he said.
Chandrapur MP Hansaraj Heir demanded creation of a separate Vidarbha state and extended support to the Telangana state. Singers Rasamayi Balkishen, Ganga and Madhupriya entertained the audiences with their song and dance. Earlier, Gadkari was given a warm welcome by the BJP leaders at the helipad.
BJP state president G Kishen Reddy, former Union ministers B Dattatreya, Ch Vidyasagar Rao and a host of national and state BJP leaders were present.
