165 held in 152 cases; more arrests likely

Hyderabad, April 05: With the normalcy returning to communal riots-hit twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, the Hyderabad City Police has started its focus on investigations.

So far, police have booked 152 cases in five zones and arrested 165 people. About 100 more people have been picked up questioning. As many as 91 cases have been booked in South Zone (Old City); 23 in East Zone; 18 in West Zone; 13 in Central Zone and seven cases have been booked in North Zone.

A total of 15 places of worships, about 60 private vehicles including two, three and four wheelers and 18 buses of state-run RTC were damaged in the riots.

Although curfew will be relaxed for 9 hours (from 8 am to 5 pm) in all the 25 police station limits of Hyderabad on Monday, police has imposed strict restrictions. Section 144 will be imposed throughout the city during curfew period.

Pillion riding on bikes will be banned between 11 pm to 6 am. However, in specific cases women and children would be allowed as pillion riders. In emergencies, pillion riding would be allowed only with the permission of higher officials.

Police hope that the complete normalcy will soon return to the city and then only curfew may be relaxed completely.
