New Delhi: Delhi Police has seized 1,620 kg of banned red sandalwood worth around Rs one crore from a locality in west Delhi.
The police said it received a tip-off that the banned red sandalwood was being dumped at a godown in Mundka here, and later a team of cops and forest officials recovered 56 logs.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Delhi) Pushpendra Kumar said the plot owner in Mundka could not be traced and on breaking open the lock of the room, 56 wood logs of banned red sandal weighing 1,620 kg, worth around Rs one crore, were found and they were taken into police possession.
An FIR was registered at Mundka Police Station under the provisions of the IPC and the Indian Forest Act.
Police said further investigation is in progress to find out the sources, sellers and receivers of the red sandals logs.
