160 Mumbai cops died in 2015: Heart attack, cancer major

Mumbai: Over 160 personnel of Mumbai police died last year, with heart ailments and cancer being among the major causes.

According to official data, 36 police personnel died of “prolonged illness” in 2015, while 35 succumbed to heart ailments.

Cancer claimed the life of 16 personnel, followed by jaundice and liver ailments which claimed 15 lives.

As many as 17 policemen died in road accidents, while seven cops allegedly committed suicide in 2015.

Other causes included asthma, typhoid, malaria and TB.

The year also witnessed murder of two policemen.
