16-yr old girl, crazed man dead in Mumbai shootout

Mumbai, March 18: In a shocking incident, a 65-year-old man went on shooting spree in a housing society in Andheri on Thursday that left a 16-year-old girl dead and two policemen injured, before he was shot down by the police.

The elderly man identified as Harish Marodia is a retired custom officer and was reportedly mentally unstable.

As per preliminary reports, Marodia, a resident of Saujanya Apartment near Navrang Cinema hall had a long standing property dispute with the girl’s family also residing in the same building.

Today morning also he had an altercation with her family members. As luck would have it the deceased girl happened to cross his way while on her way back from school.

In a fit of fury, Harish took the girl as hostage and locked himself inside his own apartment.

The residents of the apartment then informed the Police Control Room about the incident and a police team immediately rushed to take stock of the situation.

The police team asked him to lay down arms and surrender, but he refused to heed to them and continued to fire indiscriminately in which a Sub-Inspector and a constable were injured.

The police team returned fire. They could take control of the situation only after firing stopped.

The police then forced their way into the room only to find both Harish and the girl lying in a pool of blood.

The two were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital but were declared brought dead.
