16 sent to jail for drunken driving

A local court has convicted 16 people for a period of three days of imprisonment each for drunken driving.

The conviction was pronounced by Third Metropolitan Magistrate B Chengalaraya Nayudu. The enforcement against drunk driving was carried out over the last weekend on April 5th and 6th and a total of 315 cases were booked against Drunk Drivers. The vehicles of all the respondents were also detained. They attended the compulsory counselling sessions at TTI, Begumpet and Goshamahal on Monday.

The detained vehicles include 229 two-wheelers, 10 three-wheelers and 75 four-wheelers. The respondents were produced before the III & IV Metropolitan Magistrate Courts and fines between Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,100 were imposed.

From January 1st to April 6th, a total of 3,037 cases have been registered and as many as 158 people have been imprisoned in different cases. (INN)
