New Delhi, July 09: Between 50,000 to 150,000 Indian workers have returned from the gulf – mainly UAE due to economic slowdown in the region, the lower house of the Indian Parliament was told on Wednesday.
Replying to a question, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi told the House that an estimated 50,000 to 150,000 workers – who are usually mostly from the construction sector – have returned to India as result of delays in execution of projects due to slowdown across the region, the Press Trust of India reported.
Ravi said most workers have returned on leave without pay with the expectation that they would be able to go back soon.
