Mumbai, July 30: The Pant Nagar police have arrested a 15-year-old boy for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl from his neighbourhood in the Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar at Ghatkopar.
According to police, the accused, Salim Shaikh (name changed), lured the victim with a chocolate and asked her to come to his residence. He then allegedly raped her and told her not to tell anyone about it and sent her back home.
The victim returned home and after some time complained to her mother that she was suffering from pain in her private parts. Her mother took her to a doctor who said she had been raped. When the mother asked the girl, she narrated the whole incident.
A case was registered with the Pant Nagar police station and police started searching for Shaikh. The accused’s father, who works as a driver, was away at work when the incident took place.
Shaikh fled from his residence and hid at his friend’s place in the same locality from where the police arrested him on Wednesday.
The situation in the Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar was tense as the news spread about the five-year-old being raped by a youngster from the minority community, while the victim is from the dalit community. Local leaders called for a bandh in the area and also a protest was staged by members of a local mandal named Panchsheel Mitra Mandal.
A senior police officer said: “We have deployed heavy bandobast in the area so that no untoward incident takes place. Also, we have spoken to local leaders and have asked them to talk to people in the locality so that no law and order problem arises.”
