15-year-old girl sold twice

New Delhi, July 13: Trusting a woman who assured her of reuniting her with her family from whom she had got separated at New Delhi railway station proved a blunder for Kavita. She was sold to an elderly person at Haridwar and thereafter to another.

‘‘Seeing Kavita, 15, confused and in great distress, I asked her what the matter was,’’ said Udai, a PCO owner at the Bhiwani railway station, where Kavita came running along the tracks after escaping from a house situated in Friends Colony, where she had allegedly been held captive by a man, identified as Pardeep.

Udai took her to the Birla Textile Mill police post but the two had to shuttle between the police post and the town police station as personnel stationed at both the locations had been shifting the onus on each other on the ground of jurisdiction. Eventually, a lady constable of town police station accompanied her to the Friends Colony, where a woman, who introduced herself as Pardeep’s aunt claimed that the girl had married her nephew.

Kavita revealed to the police that she hailed from Aligarh and had got lost at New Delhi railway station, where she had come with her father. A woman sympathized with her, assuring her to escort her to her hometown, sold her to an elderly person for Rs 50,000. Thereafter, she was resold to Pardeep for Rs 70,000, brought her to his uncle’s residence located at Friends Colony.
