15 students injured in group clash in Hyderabad college

Hyderabad: At least 15 students of a local private engineering college were today injured in a group clash sparked by comments reportedly made against pupils from Bihar, police said.

The incident took place in premises of the college in Hayathnagar, where local second-year engineering students exchanged fisticuffs with their counterparts from Bihar and hit each other with sticks, police said.

“There was some issue going on for the past one week between the two groups after some Telugu students reportedly passed certain remarks against the Bihari students that initially resulted in arguments. Today they attacked each other and at least 15 of them sustained minor injuries,” said Hayathnagar Police Station Inspector P Venkateshwarlu.

Based on complaints from both sides, police registered cases against members of the two groups and also the college management. They were booked under Sections of IPC related to voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation.

The injured students were admitted to a hospital, police said, adding further probe was on.
