15 more marine police stations soon: DGP

Vishakhapatnam, June 25: FIFTEEN new marine police stations will be set up in the state and the existing six will be strengthened to ensure better coastal security, directorgeneral of police RR Girish Kumar has said.

Talking to newsmen here today, Girish Kumar said adequate personnel would be recruited and provided training in Kolkata. The department was also planning to deploy AP Special Police and Indian Reserve battalions at Battinapalem in Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar and Chittoor shortly with the central government funds, he said.

He claimed that the police department had taken steps to bring down the crime rate and Maoist violence in the state. Referring to Visakhapatnam, the DGP said the crime rate in the city gradually increased. Incidents of whitecollar crimes and chainsnatchings had doubled in the recent past, he admitted and assured that steps would be taken to bring down the crime rate in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.

Girish Kumar said the families of policemen were not leading comfortable life in the police quarters here as almost all the quarters were in bad condition. An amount of Rs 25 lakh will be released shortly by the AP Police Housing Corporation for repairing the residential quarters.

The police stations at Hukumpeta, S.Rayavaram and Ravikamatham in Visakhapatnam district; Saravakota, Kasibugga, Srikakulam (outpost) and Tekkali in Srikakulam district; Vizianagaram (traffic) and Vizianagaram (outpost) in Vizianagaram district would be modernised, he said.

Answering a question, Kumar said Maoists activities in the Agency areas of the district were growing again and the police were ready to provide security to leaders in those areas. The department was planning to introduce a centralised `Dial 100′ system for people wanting to lodge complaints.

Earlier, Girish Kumar laid the foundation stone for a Rs 10crore new building to house the office of the city police commissionerate office.
