As love is in the air on 14 February, but Valentine’s Day turned out to be difficult to get on with for a few couples across the city, were forced to tie the knot after they were caught by Bajrang Dal activists.
However, official sources say that no couples were got hitched, sources from the party said that as many as 15 couples were married on Friday.
More than a thousand volunteers of the Bajrang Dal participated in Valentine’s Day protests held across the state. Effigies symbolising Valentine’s Day were burnt at several places in the city, which includes Panjagutta, ECIL, Abids, Kukatpally, Dilsukhnagar, Paradise, Tarnaka etc.
Many activists even broke down the door of bakeries, florists’ stores and malls in the city and smashed up property. Over 50 people were arrested by the police.
“We have been opposing this and will always oppose Valentine’s Day, said Bajrang Dal state convenor Y. Bhanu Prakash .This is not Indian culture and we believe that one does need a day to celebrate love.” A Bajrang Dal member said.
