Thiruvallur, January 25: The CID wing of Civil Supply Department has seized 140 bags of PDS rice, meant to be smuggled to Andhra Pradesh, and arrested one person in this connection yesterday.
According to Civil Supply Department CID wing sources, the rice packed in bags of 50 kg each was being smuggled in an Eicher Van. On seeing the officials Appu (25), a resident of Sridevi Nagar in Athipattu near Poneri here, tried to flee from the spot but was caught.
He was arrested and produced before Judicial Magistrate I. A case was registered, sources said.UNI
